Because of the Cross I Am...

With Matt Peckett

Because of the Cross, what aren’t I?

The Cross is a symbol.

For some, it is a symbol of freedom, change, a new life, a new beginning, community, opportunity and the list goes on for each person. To me, I see the Cross as a realisation of ability. The Cross is a symbol of sacrifice and from that sacrifice comes a second chance.

When I became a Christian, it took me a long time to understand and find faith, and to be honest, I’m still working on it. But what I did have was an overwhelming sense of understanding in my ability to give back and passion I had for outward purpose. When I started to think about others and just how much we can accomplish by giving, God did not disappoint.

I believe that because of the Cross, I have been given an opportunity and put into a position to directly impact and better the lives of the people that surround me and others in my community through the generous and giving heart of God. We (my wife Jess and I) had such a calling to move to London, and then to find C3 like we did two weeks before lockdown, get to know the community, make amazing friends and then find ourselves running the Beyond team, was nothing short of a dream situation.

Because of the Cross I am... here in the UK, surrounded by new family, in a growing church, running Beyond, reaching out to people we can help, keeping the rough sleepers warm, helping those who can’t help themselves, making long term relationships, serving the community and loving on London.

The Cross can not be described in one story but will instead be a story told differently each time by each different person which really just says it all.

And that alone is the power of this symbol.
